Cake Pops Tutorial!

When I first tried the Cake pops by Starbucks I Fell. In. Love. However, I thought that they were a bit pricey. I started looking for more affordable ways to make them myself. I came across the Oreo pops and have made those for several events. Everyone who tried them enjoyed them and I won a baking competition at work! I still wanted to learn how to make cake pops.

I tried a no bake option with tons of powdered sugar and they were horrible. When I made my Halloween cupcakes I had some extra cake. I decided to try and create my own recipe with a few other random ingredients. These were a huge success! I found that even I liked them better than the Starbucks cake pops.
Recently a friend and her son celebrated his 18th birthday and requested that I make these cake pops for them. Even better than that, she was helping! So I decided this would be the PERFECT time to put together a tutorial.

INGREDIENTS
Cake!
1/2 cup of Powdered Sugar
2 Bags Wilton Chocolate Melts
Sitcks (Optional)
1 8oz pack of Cream Cheese
Wax or Parchment Paper
*Makes about 25 Cake Pops*

DIRECTIONS

1. Make your cake just like your box says. (Betty Crocker Super Moist has been my favorite. Maybe one day I will search for a from scratch recipe :\) Let the cake cool before going to the next step. Trust me you don't want to be crumbling up hot cake. :)

2. Crumble the cake. I use a fork and sort of scrape across the cake. Don't worry if there are a few larger pieces  you'll take care of those in a moment.

3. Add the powder sugar and the cream cheese. I like to use about 6oz to 7oz of cream cheese but if you overcooked your cake you can use more. Mix this all together you should be able to pick up the whole chunk without pieces falling off. Or at least mostly.

4. Roll the dough into little or big balls (your choice!) Using an ice cream or cookie scoop may help make your size consistent. Place the balls on some parchment or wax paper and on a cookie sheet.

5. Pop the balls in the fridge for about 15 min.

6. Heat about 7 to 10 of the melts in a small dish according to the directions on the package. Use this to dip your sticks in before shoving the stick into the frozenish cake. This will help the ball stay on the stick. *For your sticks you can use the super expensive white ones or you can get some cheap bamboo skewers and cut them in half.* Put the balls back in the freezer for another 10 min or until the chocolate is hard.
*I like to use Wilton Candy Melts but there are a few other brands out there.*

7. Heat the rest of the chocolate in a narrow bowl or measuring cup. Dip the balls into the chocolate and place back on the pan or in a stand (you can use a store bought one, styrofoam, or card board). You can tap the stick on the edge of the bowl to get some of the excess chocolate off. This is the time when you would want to put the decoration on. The chocolate hardens pretty quickly. Keep in the fridge until about 20 min before serving. I prefer them to be a bit colder but you could leave them out a bit longer and they would still taste fine.

Elf on the Shelf: Day 9, 10, and 11

Day 9: Sparkly :) took all of my daughter's books out and threw them on the floor.

Day 10: She decided to take a ride on my daughter's old rocking horse. Because we have a 2 year old and it is likely this elf will get knocked over, we have an agreement that only mommy can move the elf. My 2 year old has been doing great with this. If Sparkly falls over or needs to be moved to another location for the rest of the day, Zoey understands that it is ok for mommy to move the elf without it loosing its magic. She has not touched the elf a single time. I think I will tell her that everything will loose its magic if she touches it!

Day 11:  I even tried to build in some father daughter time. On Day 11 Sparkly gave a gift of a gingerbread necklace. Since I am at work today they will have to put it together. Having Sparkly give a gift or a craft is great for those days when I forget to do something or don't have time.

Chocolate Trees! YUM!

On Thanksgiving I had some extra chocolate left over from my cake pops (tutorial coming soon!) I had been wanting to pipe out some little designs and I think these came out well.

To do this all you need is to put some chocolate in a piping bottle/bag or use a ziploc bag and snip the corner off. Pipe out your design. I did the outline first, made it kind of thick and then I piped the zig-zags across. I added some sprinkles to finish it off. These can be used for your ginger bread houses, to add to cupcakes or cakes, or even just as a cute holiday snack.

We have been working on many holiday projects this year. I plan on posting them all for everyone to see. What kind of holiday projects have you been working on? Share your ideas in the comments! You can even add a link to your Pinterest boards.

Elf on the Shelf: Day 6, 7, and 8

Day 6 -Elf (and technically my BFF) brought some BINGO dabbers for us to decorate wrapping paper with (tutorial coming soon)!!

Day 7 -Elf turned the milk green! (SN: Don't try this at home. gross details---> My husband changed a diaper shortly after my 2 year old consumed this festive milk and apparently she had festive poo.):

Day 8 -Our Elf got a new name on day 8! Her new name is Sparkly! My daughter came to me and said, "Mommy, elf name is Sparkly!" This was quite random, but I was thankful because I like Sparkly much better than the old name Elf. And you can see Sparkly above after she just made an X-mas tree.

How Does an Atheist Decorate for X-mas?

With a black and white tree of course! Well, actually you can decorate however you like. Yes, I celebrate Xmas and I use "Xmas". I like to you use Xmas because it takes the Christ out of Christmas and people think that is ridiculous. Last night I was preparing the advent type events for my 2 year old to celebrate and started to think about why my husband and I choose to celebrate Xmas. The only answer I could truly think of was because it's fun! Who doesn't like to open a ton presents?

Elf on a Shelf: Day 1

One of the very first tasks you have once your creepy little elf arrives is to name the thing. Our daughter has chosen Elf. I think I will open up the naming option again next year to see if we can get a little more creative.

As I wake up and start getting ready for work I remember this damn elf. I had NOTHING planned for the first day! I quickly do a internet search and find this cute idea.

Who Put Glass in Your Cupcakes?

A few weeks ago I brought some cupcakes to work with glass and blood in them. They were a HUGE hit. I was asked to make them for a friends Halloween party and for another friends son's birthday party. I learned how to make hardy candy for these, which is not as difficult as I thought. I decided I would post a tutorial on how to make them. At this point I have made these cupcakes 3 times this month. I have think I have gotten better each time!

Endorse!

Endorse is a really neat android app for earning money. I have been using it for about a one month and already have $16.29 bucks! The process of using this app and making money is quite simple. First, go here to sign up and download the app. Review the offers listed. Go shopping at the store. Scan your receipt with the app and submit it.

There are normally about 5 to 10 offers available and you can do one or all of them. My favorite offers are the 50% off of diapers and/or coffee. Sometimes the offers will have certain limits. For example the diaper offer has been available a few times and it is normally 50% off up to $5. Meaning if you buy a $10 pack of diapers you will get a $5 reward! The great thing is once you have collected $25 in rewards you can "Cash Out" and have a check mailed or receive funds via Paypal!

Have you used Endorse? Comment below letting me know how you like it or don't like it.

Really Old Man!

ABC

Today an old man stopped me in the street to tell me that I needed to learn how to spell. Well, I think he needs to realize that it is a license plate. You think I don't know how to spell? NO! Atheist was already taken! I'm glad it was taken too.

Art? No! It's Just Weird! (and real)

On January 20th 2012 I was taking a normal stroll through Target and happened upon THIS! I know what the painting is trying to say, but really it just sucks. Why the fuck would Target sell something like this? Did they even actually sell one? What a dumb kid. She has all this yummy fruit around her and she decides to eat some PAPER? Please share your thoughts about this ridiculous piece of shit.

A Free Book?

This time I was left a free book! This was left on my car about a month ago, I cannot recall what store I was at when I received this. The title is "For Your Joy" and yet I do not think reading this will make me happy.

The book had this stamp on the first page. This belongs to a local church.

Check out the awesome sections of the little book. This book is too silly. It does not even take into consideration the actual reasons people do not believe in god.

Real Weird Nails!!!

Wow!! This is sooo cool. Someone has turned my logo into nail art! Okay okay they were not inspired by my site but these and all of the other nails over at Kayleighoc's Deviant Art page are really awesome!

Thanks to Geekologie for sharing this on their site for me to see!

Another Note

It's nice to know someone believes in me. JK this is from someone who is not real. This was left on my car when I was grocery shopping. I think.
